Forget Global City, 50% of Hyderabadis live in poor state!

A recent study conducted in all the 150 GHMC wards in Hyderabad revealed that more than half of the city lives in bad environmental conditions. In a classification of five categories from ‘bad’ to ‘very good’, only 12 wards made it to the ‘good’ and ‘very good’ categories in terms of overall environmental quality.

85 wards were classified as ‘bad’ and these wards constitute 56 per cent of the city’s population and cover nearly 192 Square Kms. Four Very Good wards – Yousufguda, Kishanbagh, Rahmath-nagar and Jubilee Hills, constitute 3 per cent of the city’s population and 20 sq. km area.

The wards were categorized based on a multitude of environmental parameters including air, water, solid waste and noise pollution apart from urban population, green cover, water bodies and relative entropy. The study only stresses on the need of improving basic amenties in the city before targeting to make it a Global City.
