The prestigious free Wi-Fi project of Telangana government began as a pilot project in the surroundings of Hitech city. Information Technology Minister KTR started the service a short while ago . The Public Wi-Fi is available in Hitech City, Madhapur, Kondapur areas in the radius of 8 Kilometers. Users can use the facility till 750 MB. Government has tied up with Airtel for this pilot project.
During this pilot project, Government will study the feasibility, costs involved and security measures to be taken under this scheme. Government is studying the measures taken by them for data security and prevention of abuse. Also currently there are no statistics with the government regarding the number of internet users in Hyderabad. Arrival at that number will give the exact estimate of the scope and range of this project. The free WiFi will be extended to all parts of the city phase by phase.Government is planning to extend the service for the entire city in the next 5 months and will be inviting tenders for this very soon.
