German Funding to Revive Vijayawada Metro?

The stalled Vijayawada Metro Rail Project is being revived by the state government with a possible funding by a German funding agency. The cost of Vijayawada Metro Rail project is Rs 6,769 crore, including land acquisition and relief & rehabilitation (R&R) cost.

The project is also likely to get loans from HUDCO and other local banks to the tune of 1859 Crore but the government is looking at other options since the rate of interest 8.65% is very high. Naidu is keen on reviving the project at the earliest.

Proposals were also submitted to the Centre for the development of Visakhapatnam metro rail project under Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode. The proposed Visakhapatnam Metro Rail Project will have a total length of 42 kilometers and the estimated cost is Rs 8,800 crore.
