Government operated Liquor shops in AP!

Andhra Pradesh government is thinking on the lines of stopping giving licenses of liquor shops to private persons and operate them by government itself. This system is in place in Tamil Nadu and it has yielded good results there.

At present, giving licenses to private persons is giving chances of belt shops which sell liquor illegally. Government loses huge income from such sale. Also there are fair chance of adulteration which is hazardous to the lives of the public.

Government is of the opinion that liquor sales will increase by 40% if it operates the shops. Such move will bring 4500 Crores of additional income. If we subtract the losing license fees and maintenance costs and add the commission paid to shops, the net profit for an year will be at least 900 Crores. Government has sent a delegation to Tamil Nadu to study the model and is planning to implement it from the next year itself.
