Government Trying to Stall Select Committee?

It is known that Legislative Council Chairman MA Shariff had referred two bills – the ‘Capital Region Development Authority Repeal Bill, 2020 and ‘Andhra Pradesh Decentralisation and Inclusive Development of All Regions Bill 2020’ to the select committee using his discretionary powers.

That has angered Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy who moved a resolution to abolish the council. The council, however, will be working until the bill is passed in the Parliament and the President gives his assent. It looks like the Government is trying to stall the Select Committee even before that.

Minister Botsa Satyanarayana made crucial comments on that. “Council Chairman went against the rules and how will Secretary follow such orders? If the secretary did not follow the rules, he will be punished. We need not pressurize the Assembly Secretary but officials are expected to work according to G.O.s and rules,” he said.

This implies that the Government does not want the Select Committee to be formed and the work to begin indicating that the Government is expecting that the Central Government will immediately take up the abolition work. Let us see what happens finally in this issue!
