Ground work for Vizag Metro gets going!

The survey works for Vishakapatnam Metro Project began on Thursday. Andhra Pradesh Metro Adviser Sreedhar visited the city couple of months ago and identified three corridors for the project. The state government had approved his work and the survey for required land, possibilities and routes has began.

This three corridors are expected to stretch over 30 Kms in the crowdy areas of Vishakapatnam. The state government will want to pursue Vijayawada and Vishakapatnam Metro projects simultaneously. Once the survey is completed, the Detailed Project Report (DPR) will take 5-6 months to be prepared.The DPR would be sent to both state and central governments for approval

According to the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act, the Center will have to bear the expenses of both these projects. As per initial estimates, around Rs 200-220 crore per km is required for constructing metro rail project and the 30-km Vizag project will need around Rs 6,000 to Rs 6,600 crore.
