GST Bill coming in the way of AP’s Special Status

Central government is continuously hinting at the denial of Special Status to Andhra Pradesh. It is said that the ambitious GST bill of NDA government has got some to do with this denial. Experts say the government is planning to abolish all the existing tax systems in the country and impose a uniform tax structure.

They say all the states which are currently enjoying the Special Status benefits will also lose them once GST becomes an act and will only receive any help from the center through Special packages. And so the center is not keen on awarding Special Status to Andhra Pradesh.

On the other side, Congress party had once again successfully stalled the GST bill. The Central government is keen to hold one more session specially for passing the GST bill. Despite all that, it is still in doubt how the bill can be passed in Rajya Sabha where Congress still holds the majority.
