The salaries are not on par with their expectations which led to miffed employees, says the story. The employees took up the issue with their higher-ups according to the story.

In a meeting held on March 25, the issue was raised. A majority of employees expressed their dissatisfaction over the hike. They complained that though the company did well financially, the hikes were not in proportion.

Their grouse was that the increasing cost of living did not match the salary hikes.

Google’s vice president John Casey responded by saying that about 80% of the employees received more than what they got last year. He however agreed that those in non-technical side and other departments got lower packages.

The company was looking at addressing the issue, but priority would be given to those who performed better, he said. However, various reports say that the Google employees got 3% hike as compared to 8-10% hike last year.

Meanwhile, Google had laid off as many as 10% in December 2024 including managers, directors and vice presidents. It had said the move was necessary to face competition from AI companies.
