HYDRA Commissioner AV Ranganath
The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRA) has initiated actions to safeguard the twin reservoirs, causing significant concern among celebrities and influential figures. These individuals, worried about the potential demolition of their cherished farmhouses and other structures amidst scenic natural settings, have attempted to halt HYDRA’s operations.
Reports suggest that ministers and high-ranking officials have started lobbying to prevent the demolition of structures within the full tank level (FTL) and buffer zones. However, HYDRA sources have indicated that despite these pressures, they will not compromise on their mission.
Following a brief two-day pause in their demolition activities, the operations are expected to resume shortly. HYDRA Commissioner AV Ranganath recently met with Chief Secretary Shantikumari to provide an update on the demolition activities, particularly in Gandipet.
Ranganath reportedly presented detailed information on the illegal structures identified in the FTL and buffer zones of Himayat Sagar. These structures include farmhouses and buildings owned by prominent business leaders, film personalities, and even current and former government officials.
Notably, an MLC’s farmhouse in Kotwalguda and similar properties in Aziznagar, owned by former ministers, MLAs, and both retired and serving IAS and IPS officers, are among those identified for demolition.
Efforts by these influential individuals to stop the demolitions, particularly in Gandipet, have so far been unsuccessful. Despite consultations with various ministers and high officials, HYDRA officials have remained firm, even resorting to measures such as switching off their phones to avoid external pressure.
A recent example of HYDRA’s determination is the demolition of multi-storied buildings in the Errakunta pond FTL in Pragatinagar, despite appeals to a minister to intervene, demonstrating the agency’s commitment to enforcing the law without bias.
