Hyd Airport: Politicians Allowed, Families Not?

Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad is among the country’s fastest-growing airports.

Recently, authorities issued a notice urging families to avoid large gatherings when sending off students departing for further studies in the US, as this was causing a big inconvenience to other passengers.

This has sparked a mixed response. Many are questioning the airport’s authorities for initially banning people from receiving politicians.

They point out that during a politician’s arrival, a minimum of 200 people gather at the airport, causing traffic congestion for hours and creating a tense political atmosphere.

While this argument is valid and the airport officials should indeed restrict or prohibit political displays, a similar issue arises when students leave for US master’s programs.

At least 10 people, and sometimes up to 50, accompany each student for a send-off. This too disrupts the travel experience for other passengers.

This practice needs to cease, particularly during the fall season when numerous students depart for the US. Stringent regulations should be implemented.
