Metro Charges Hiked, Lowest in Country: L&T

Hyderabad Metro charges have been hiked. On the lower side, the price has been increased from Rs 10 to Rs 12. On the higher side, the Metro fare has been hiked from Rs 60 to Rs 75.

The hike will be implemented from May 17. L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad (L&TMRH) which built and runs Hyderabad Metro Rail has hiked the price for the first time. It said in a press release that the Fare Fixation Committee (FFC) has fixed the fare, to accommodate affordability and economic sustainability.

FFC was constituted in September 2022, headed by a former High Court judge, by the Center. It proposed revised fares in January, 2023. These fares are binding on L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad, said the press release.

The ticket prices have been hiked by 20-25% and the L&T has sought cooperation from commuters. L&TMRH intends to buy new train sets to increase services during peak hours and provide better facilities for commuters.

Incidentally, Delhi Metro increased prices twice while Bengaluru Metro that started at the time of Hyderabad Metro increased the fare by 45% recently.

L&TMRH points out that the hike in Hyderabad is the lowest.
