Hyderabad Opens 24/7: Right Or Wrong Move?

The BRS government recently issued regulations allowing all shops and establishments, including restaurants and malls, to remain open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

With a growing economy, in a metropolitan city like Hyderabad, many companies operate through the night, and encouraging people’s movement during these hours may also bring in much-needed economic growth and decongest the city during the day.

The city youth is especially happy with this new rule as they can have a drink or party all night as pubs and wines might also be open all night.

Out of the many businesses, Pubs, restaurants like Paradise, Shadab, and Meridian, and Liquor shops would benefit the most. Not many shops would have customers coming 24 hours a day. Many businesses cannot afford to appoint 3 employees per 3 shifts in a day.

The new regulation will also be favorable for the brick-and-mortar showrooms that face hard competition from the 24/7 functioning of the rapidly increasing e-commerce industry in Hyderabad.

Some citizens are also glad that this new G.O. would create more jobs in night shifts.

On the other hand, the main concern of the people seems to be the possibility of a crime if there is too much public movement during the night hours.

Many crimes happen during the night and keeping the general public indoors and closing the businesses makes it easy for the cops to recognize culprits and thieves.

The police department lacks manpower during the night. If the shops and businesses are open 24/7, more people will spend their time outdoors at night, and hence more cops would be needed to ensure safety.

Some people also feel that if shops are open at night and a lot of public is coming out, any person would feel safer stepping out of their homes. The thieves operate and take advantage of nighttime only if the roads and streets are empty.

Some people are already complaining that late-night activities in bars and clubs can create noise and disturbance, which can disrupt the peace of nearby residents.

Overall it can be said that the nightlife economy, employment opportunities, and tourism could be greatly boosted if the new G.O. can be implemented in the best way possible.
