HYDRAA Boon For Hyderabad Rains?

HYDRAA, the very word is a nightmare for encroachers, mainly encroachers of lands bordering lakes and ponds across the city. Almost daily, one gets to see pictures of demolitions by HYDRAA.

But this monsoon season, it appears as if the goal of HYDRAA has been realised. In the past, a shower would mean hours of traffic jams and flooded roads.

HYDRAA teams are in action this rainy season and people are slowly realizing that the actions of the special teams are paying off. HYDRAA or Hyderabad Disaster Response & Asset Protection Agency has trained 4100 people to manage emergency situations during the rainy season.

Incidentally, the handling of emergencies during monsoon have been given to HYDRAA recently from GHMC. 150 monsoon emergency teams with 1800 staff are ready to tackle issues around the city.

734 people will be deployed at places that are inundated year after year. HYDRAA will deploy 51 teams of its own with 18 members in each team during emergency situations.

There will be 2-member teams on bikes. Additionally, 20 teams with 10 persons each will work with the traffic police. Another 240 members will clear fallen trees. All teams have been provided with necessary training and equipment.

HYDRAA chief AV Ranganath has directed the teams to clear the drains as early as possible to ensure that the rain water flows freely to stop flooding.

The monsoon has just set in. It remains to be seen how HYDRAA delivers during peak rainy season.
