ID Proof must for Online marriages?

Very soon you may need to have an Aadhaar card or a driving licence or any government-approved identity proof so as to place matrimonial advertisements on websites. There are increase in instances of men setting up fake online profiles to cyber stalk or dupe women. Recently, such cases are increasing.

The government is finally planning to make ID Proof mandatory for posting such ads and will need to amend the Information Technology Act, 2000. It will be notified soon by the Department of Electronics & Information Technology. Currently matrimonial websites only need phone verification to post ads.

Going forward, the websites will also setup a grievance officer and his contact details along with the complaint redressal mechanism that will be made available to any victim, in case of any dispute. The central government reportedly consulted senior representatives of leading websites and took their suggestion strengthen security features of their such sites.
