Increasing IITs a very bad idea!

The central government had announced the idea of establishing IITs in all the states of the country. Superficially the idea seem to be very good as the premiere institutions will become available to more students. But experts believe this move will be a threat to the concept itself. IIT boasts of having the best faculty and facilities available to the best students of the country. However IITs in recent times are facing the dearth of faculty for various reasons. More IITs will mean that the teaching quality will only suffer further.

Also IITs should have generous allocation of funds to them but in reality the amount that will be invested here, if directed to develop basic education amenities in the country will certainly improve the enrollment rate and improve literacy. It is always better to have a good chunk of people accessible to basic primary and secondary education than to have a creamy layer having good technological studies. Also having more IITs will only further dilute their brand. Also experts suggest that it is high time government takes care of other streams like Arts, commerce and others which will balance the talent stream in the country.
