India – 85th Most Corrupt Country in the World

India has slightly bettered its position on World’s Corruption Index announced by Transparency International India (TII). The country was at 94th position out of the total 175 countries in the World last year and this year, it is positioned at 85th Rank. Denmark which was in the first position last year with least corruption also maintained its position at the top this year too.

North Korea and Somalia recorded the highest corruption in the World and are placed at the Bottom 175th position. In our neighbouring countries, Bhutan is better than us at 30th rank while Sri Lanka is positioned at same rank as India. The other neighbouring countries who are behind us are – China (100), Pakistan (126), Nepal (126), Bangladesh (145) and Afghanistan (172).

TII has opined that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s promise of Corruption Free India seem to have worked some extent in this betterment and the corruption has decreased in government offices when compared to the last year. The organization has opined that introduction of stringest anti corruption laws will further decrease corruption in India.
