India Opens Medal Tally In Tokyo Olympics

India has opened its account in Tokyo Olympics. Mirabai Chanu won a Silver medal in 49 Kgs Weightlifting. India has got a medal in Weightlifting after Karnam Malleshwari who got a medal twenty-four years ago in Sydney Olympics.

Mirabai Chanu who hails from Manipur has lifted 202 Kilos – 89 Kilos in Snatch and 115 Kilos in Clean and Jerk. Chinese Weightlifter got the Gold by lifting 210 Kilos. India has managed to open the medals tally right on the second day of the event.

Twenty-Six-year-old Chanu hails from Imphal, Manipur. She has emerged as the World Champion in 2017. She was conferred the Khel Ratna for the year 2018. Chanu is the sixth Indian to get the Olympic Silver medal and also overall the 17th individual Olympic medallist from India (from 1900 to 2021).

Hopefully, this is the first of many medals for the country including the first-ever Gold.
