India To Get Its First e-Waste Eco Park
An 11-member committee has been formed to look into the modalities of setting up such a place. The committee will appoint an agency pretty soon, and the Park will be ready in about 23 months. For the unversed, Delhi produces over two lakh tonnes of e-waste every year, or about 9.5 percent of the total amount produced in India. It has to be noted that five percent of the generated e-waste is properly recycled.
At the e-waste eco-park, all e-waste will be dismantled, refurbished, recycled, and manufactured in a manner that is scientifically and environmentally sound. The decision has been taken as Delhi happens to be the fifth-largest producer of e-waste in India, after Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, UP, and West Bengal.
Another plus of the eco-park would be that it will bring down pollution caused by e-waste drastically.
