Indian-American to Lead World Bank for 5 Years

On Wednesday, Ajay Banga, an Indian-American with a long career in the private sector, was confirmed as the next president of the World Bank.

He was nominated for the position by US President Joe Biden in February and was poised to become president unopposed as no countries nominated any alternate member for the position while the window remained open.

Banga is well-equipped to lead the global institution at a critical moment in history, according to Biden, who cited Banga’s experience in building and managing successful global companies that create jobs and bring investment to developing economies.
