Indian Family Arrested for Hiding $4,97,000 in Shoes & Saree

Three Indian passengers going to Dubai were arrested at Mumbai International Airport, following a targeted op by AIU. The family of three was stopped and an examination of their luggage was done which led to the arrest.

The passengers were supposed to board flight FZ 446 to Dubai but were intercepted in a targeted operation during the early hours on Nov 2, 2022. The customs officials recovered $4,97,000 which is equivalent to approximately Rs 4.1 crore in Indian rupees.

The family stuffed notes in Nike-style shoes and laced them inside a saree. Now, the catch has become viral on Twitter.

Despite clear rules, the carrying of international currency happens from time to time which leads to customs officers getting a chance to grab those trying to sneak out of the country.
