But here comes the shocker. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and even WhatsApp may not be in operation from May 26, Wednesday as they fail to adhere to the new guidelines issued by the government three months back.

As per the latest guidelines the platforms were supposed to appoint a compliance officer from India. The social media platforms under Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code Rules were directed to comply with the new norms and if they fail to do so they may not only lose their status but a case could also be filed against them.

It is worth mentioning that except for Koo, Indian version of Twitter, none of them have abided by the new rules.

Meanwhile, the news has come as a major disappointment for social media users who are now floating various memes and venting their anger over the ban of those popular apps.
