National Anthem Must Be Played in Theaters: SC

Supreme Court passed orders to play National anthem in Theaters before the film is presented and the National flag to be displayed on the screen while the anthem is played. All in the hall should raise and pay attention to the Anthem and the flag and this is mandatory. This is already been practiced in Goa and Maharashtra.

The court has also ordered the theaters not to commercialize the same. i.e the anthem should be used for any advertisements or commercials. Also, abridged anthem shouldn’t be played to make sure that the National Anthem is not disrespected.

The rule was passed in response to a petition filed by Shyam Narayan Chouski from an NGO. Cinema owners objected it though in the past when the petition was filed that the might anthem might be disrespected in the theater if played in such environment. But SC came up with the decision to play the Anthem in Cinema halls.
