India’s Corona Vaccination Drive to be of Unprecedented Scale

The other day, Adar Poonawalla, the Owner of Serum Institute of India – The Biggest Vaccine Manufacturer in the World hinted about AstraZeneca and Oxford University’s Corona vaccine coming in December. The company’s first batch of 100 million doses available in India by the second or third quarter of 2021

Meanwhile, India has started augmenting its cold chain capacity in preparation for mass vaccination against COVID. The preparations are in full swing. India’s current cold storage capacity one of the largest in the world but even that would not be enough.

“Most likely the entire program will be swift and unprecedented in scale, as the plan is to do it along lines of elections. It may be even more because only 60-65% participate in an election but this would be much bigger,” a source told us.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 150 Covid-19 vaccines are presently in development, with around 44 candidates in clinical trials and 11 undergoing late-stage testing.
