Ineligible if some one changes party: EC

In a shock to YSR Congress Party MPs SPY Reddy and Butta Renuka who joined Telugu Desam Party today, Election Commissioner HS Brahma cleared that any member of a political party elected on one symbol if goes to other party will be declared ineligible. He also added that it does not matter if the party is registered or recognized, Changing of a party when won on one symbol and jumped to other party is a violation of Prevention of Parties changing act under Schedule 10 of the constitution.

However, there are some loopholes in the law as well. If more than 50% of a political party together change their political loyalty then it will not be equal to a violation. Also the ineligibility complaints are at the mercy of Lok Sabha Speaker, he/she can accept it or deny it or even may hold the complaint for several years too. In the wake of Brahma’s comments, YSRCP Kurnool MP Butta Renuka said she will continue as YSR Congress MP but will act as TDP associate member. Other MP, SPY Reddy from Nandhyala made it clear that he is also ready to face election.
