Jagan Attends CBI Court For The First Time as The Chief Minister

For the first time since he became Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh in 2019, Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy appeared before the CBI Special Court, where he is facing a batch of quid pro quo cases. Along with Jagan, his trusted aide, Rajya Sabha MP V. Vijaysai Reddy also attended the court.

Jagan who attended court every Friday when he was an MP and the Opposition Leader of Andhra Pradesh, tried to evade the court proceedings after becoming the Chief Minister for one reason or the other. He earlier sought a blanket exemption from the court appearances which was rejected.

The YSR Congress president has been facing trial wherein he was charge-sheeted in at least 11 cases as the prime accused in alleged quid pro quo deals. He is currently out on bail, having spent time in jail as an “un-convicted criminal prisoner” in the Chanchalguda Central Prison from May 2012 to September 2013.

Jagan last appeared before the CBI court in March 2019. He skipped the court appearances due to the Election Campaign after that. Meanwhile, both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Governments made Extraordinary Security arrangements in the eve of Jagan coming to the court.

Interestingly, Jagan’s mother Vijayamma and Sister Sharmila are also attending the were also asked to appear in the special court for MLAs/ MPs located in Hyderabad to face election code violation case registered against them in 2012 in Parakala in Warangal district.
