Jagan Contemplating Referendum to Decide Amaravati Future

A report in Deccan Chronicle suggests that Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is contemplating to hold a referendum to decide about the fate of Amaravati. He will decide about it after the submission of the Report on the Land Pooling in the Capital Area.

Jagan is of the opinion that there is no need to have all the Government Departments and Offices at One Place. He would retain Amaravati as the Namesake Capital while dispersing the Offices. High Court may be shifted to Rayalaseema. Kurnool or Kadapa may get the opportunity.

Some of the Offices may be shifted to Vishakapatnam. In this way, Jagan is contemplating to satisfy the people of all areas. This is the first time an Indian State will be conducting a Referendum to decide its Capital but it has to be seen if this will have the legal sanctity and if the Center allows it.

YSR Congress always positioned itself against Amaravati alleging that the Ruling Party has benefited from it. From the last few days, few Ministers are making comments against Amaravati. Meanwhile, the farmers who have given their lands for the Capital are very much worried about these developments.
