Jagan to lose LOP Status

Andhra Pradesh Finance and Assembly Affairs Minister, Yanamala Ramakrishnudu made a sensational comment about the ongoing defections in the state. Yanamala warned that YS Jagan Mohan Reddy will be losing the ‘Leader of Opposition’ status very soon. Yanamala made this comments to media a short while ago.

If Yanamala’s statement is to come true, YSR Congress’ strength in the current Assembly should be reduced to 17. A party should have at least 10% of the total strength of the house to claim Leader of Opposition Status. AP Assembly currently has 175 MLAs which means YSR Congress’ strength should fall to 17.

YSR Congress managed to win 67 MLAs in 2014 elections. Already 12 of its MLAs have joined the ruling party, leaving YSR Congress with 55 MLAs now. Which means 38 MLAs more have to jump the fence. If Yanamala is serious about what he is talking, the anti-defection law will also not apply to YSR Congress since two-thirds of the MLAs have shifted the party.
