The appointment of Dayasagar as the CEO of Machilipatnam Port, even after his retirement, has raised questions and speculation. It is noteworthy that Dayasagar is the husband of former Home Minister Mekatoti Sucharita.
This appointment is seen by some as a political strategy employed by Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy to appease dissident leaders ahead of the upcoming general elections in the state, which are scheduled to take place in 10 months.
Mekatoti Sucharita was reportedly upset with Jagan for not being given a ministerial post in the second expansion of the state cabinet. At one point, she was even prepared to resign from her MLA post. However, Jagan managed to somewhat settle the dispute by personally convincing her.
It is believed that Dayasagar intends to contest as a YSRCP candidate from the Bapatla Parliament segment, but Jagan has not responded positively to Sucharita’s indication about Bapatla Parliament.
According to reports, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has offered Dayasagar the opportunity to contest from the Bapatla Parliament seat, while also offering Sucharita an MLA position from the same constituency. Upon learning of Sucharita’s disapproval of this proposal, the Jagan government became alarmed.
As a means of appeasement, Dayasagar was appointed as the CEO of Machilipatnam Port, potentially preventing him from contesting against Jagan in the Bapatla Parliament seat and dissuading the couple from joining the TDP.
