Jail turning into Museum in Telangana!

Come this April, Telangana state will have country’s first ever jail museum. Sangareddy’s 216-year-old jail, that was originally a cavalry barrack built by the then Nizam rulers is currently being converted in to a jail museum. Later, it was transformed into a jail. It could house 90 male and five female prisoners.

The first of its kind museum will house collections and exhibits from across India. Currently the officials are renovating the entire structure to give it a new look while keeping the building’s basic structure intact. Prisons department is using the prisoners from Cherlapally Central Jail to apply colours on the upper side of the barracks.

Instructions have gone in such away that the jail should not lose its original sheen and should not look artificial after the renovation. The department also employed around 70 members from both Telugu University and JNTU College of Fine Arts to present the jail’s past in the form of paintings.
