Garapati Divya Wins MPTC Election After Death
In a tragic development during the Andhra Pradesh parishad elections, Jana Sena candidate Garapati Divya won the MPTC election in East Godavari district, a day after she died of a heart attack. The 28-year-old secured victory without being alive to see the results.
Divya contested the MPTC seat from Dhumanthunigudem in Devarapalli mandal on behalf of the Jana Sena Party. She defeated the YSRCP candidate by a margin of 352 votes in the results declared on Saturday, November 7.
According to reports, Divya fell ill on Friday and was rushed to a private hospital in Rajamahendravaram. Despite receiving treatment, she died following a reported cardiac arrest, hours before counting began.
Her sudden death shocked family members, party workers and residents of Dhumanthunigudem. The election result, announced the following day, brought further emotion to the village as supporters remembered her campaign efforts.
Divya had actively participated in the election campaign and sought support from local voters. However, she died before knowing that she had secured the MPTC seat.
The young Jana Sena leader is survived by her husband and two young sons. Her death has left her family grieving, particularly as one of her children is still an infant.
Following her death, Gopalapuram MLA Maddipati Venkataraju visited her family and offered condolences. He reportedly provided Rs 1 lakh in immediate financial assistance from his personal funds.
Divya’s victory became one of the most poignant developments during the November 7 MPTC and ZPTC counting process in Andhra Pradesh.
While her name was declared victorious in the election, her family and supporters were left mourning a candidate who could not witness the result of her campaign.
