In the span of less than 24 hours, BRS dealt with a massive shock after two of its senior leaders – K Keshava Rao and Kadiyam Srihari announced quitting the party and joining the Congress Party in the presence of CM Revanth Reddy.
Kadiyam Srihari’s daughter, Kavya withdrew as BRS Warangal Candidate and wrote an open letter to KCR saying that the allegations of Corruption, Land-grabbing, Phone-tapping, and Liquor Scam tainted the image of the party.
KK was the only leader who got respect from KCR in all party meetings. Keshava Rao announced that he is going to Congress just like how we go to home after going on a Pilgrimage.
KK was made Rajya Sabha MP twice and the party’s General Secretary. His daughter was made the GHMC Mayor and his son was a corporation chairman.
Kadiyam Srihari was made MP and MLC by the BRS and was also made the Deputy Chief Minister. His daughter was given a Warangal MP ticket.
BRS supporters and leaders are shell-shocked at this development and say these leaders backstabbed the party which has given them everything.
Going by what they got in BRS and how they deserted the party very soon after the defeat, BRS supporters can say anything.
But then, the question is if they have the moral right to blame them.
KK was a Congressman all his life and the Grand-old party gave him many things than KCR. In 2005, he was made the PCC President. In 2009, he was included in the Congress Working Committee. He was assigned to oversee Party matters in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Assam.
He was the cabinet minister in the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh for three consecutive terms, overseeing key ministries including labor, industry, and education. He also previously served as the deputy chairman of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council and was elected from the Graduates constituency for two terms. In addition, he held cabinet rank and served as head of the Rajiv Gandhi Technology Mission and the Minimum Wages Board. From 2006–12, Rao was elected to the Rajya Sabha.
It is the same case with Kadiyam Srihari who was in TDP before joining the BRS. He was given a TDP ticket six times from Station Ghanpur and won three times. He served as a Minister in NT Ramarao and Chandrababu Naidu’s cabinets.
Srihari hails from a poor background and in an interview, revealed that it was Chandrababu Naidu who helped him financially for his daughter’s studies and marriage.
It is evident how both the leaders deserted their initial parties and joined BRS. If they can do that to the parties where they took birth politically, there is no surprise when they desert BRS with which they have no ideological connection.
KCR had taken defections to the ugliest shape in Telugu politics and it is fate that he is paying the price for the same.
