The Kaleshwaram Irrigation Project in Telangana has become a focal point of discussion in the Legislative Council, with the Congress party raising allegations of significant corruption in the project.
During the election campaign, Rahul Gandhi, along with Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, had announced plans to eliminate corruption in the Kaleshwaram project and redistribute the recovered funds to the public. Responding to these allegations, CM Revanth Reddy has ordered an inquiry into the Kaleshwaram project, to be conducted by a sitting judge.
In the Legislative Council, Revanth Reddy declared his intention to take members on a visit to Medigadda after assembly meetings. However, MLC Kavitha responded, stating that Medigadda is not a tourist spot and emphasizing that if there are any errors, an inquiry should be conducted.
She expressed disapproval of attempts to tarnish the project’s image. In response, Revanth Reddy announced that he would initiate an inquiry into the entire Kaleshwaram project with the sitting judge, interpreting Kavitha’s request broadly.
Kavitha clarified that her suggestion was specifically related to taking experts to assess the sagging issue at Medigadda and investigate the reasons behind it. However, CM Revanth Reddy strategically positioned the inquiry as per Kavitha’s request, creating a perception that she had called for an investigation herself.
