Kavitha’s 72-Hour Fast Cut Short

Kalvakuntla Kavitha has been talking of 72-hour hunger strike for 42% BC reservations on August 4, 5 and 6. It was to force the Telangana Congress government and the central government to implement the quota.

Hence, on Monday, August 4, Kavitha started the fast with great gusto. Her followers put garlands and tikaas on her forehead. She posed happily for the media at Indira Park in Lower Tank Bund.

But the irony is that her 72-hour diksha has been cut short. The fast was cut short to 5 hours and it ended at 5 pm on Monday.

The police share that they gave the Telangana Jagruthi leader permission to fast till 5 pm on August 4.

Kavitha has been demanding 42% reservations in political, educational and local body elections in the state. She has been also urging the Courts to implement the same.

Kavitha took credit for the ordinance passed by the Telangana Congress government regarding 42% reservations. She says Telangana Jagruthi put pressure to amend the 2018 Panchayati Raj Act.

Kavitha also demanded to know why the state government was not going to Court regarding pending bills and issues with the Governor.

The Telangana Jagruthi president pointed out that the Tamil Nadu government went to Court against the Governor when he delayed a bill. She asked why the Telangana government was not doing the same.

Kavitha also alleged there was a secret understanding between the NDA government and Telangana Congress regarding the delay in implementing the bill.

She said the state government must give 10% reservations to Muslims. Apart from that, they must give 42% reservations to BCs, she demanded. The Telangana government must table the Muslim reservation bill in the Parliament, said Kavitha.
