Amid ongoing water disputes between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, Telangana Jagruthi president Kavitha stated that Jagruthi will fight against AP water projects. Her statement comes at a time when inter-state water sharing remains a sensitive and unresolved issue.
On Monday morning, the Supreme Court of India dismissed the writ petition filed by the Telangana government against Polavaram-Nallamala. The court stated that the petition did not qualify for hearing, delivering a setback to the state government’s legal approach.
Kavitha reacted to the development through a post on X, criticising Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. She said the ruling CM once again showed his inability to resolve Krishna and Godavari water disputes with Andhra Pradesh.
She remarked that it was unfortunate for Telangana to have a CM who openly stated he did not want to fight neighbouring states over water rights. Kavitha also noted that the court outcome added another hurdle for Telangana.
According to Kavitha, filing the writ petition weakened Telangana’s rights regarding the alleged illegal construction of the Polavaram-Nallamala Sagar lift project. She claimed the move undermined the state’s position instead of protecting it.
Kavitha further alleged that due to decisions taken by the CM and a few key government members, the water rights of Telangana people were being denied. She asserted that Telangana Jagruthi will fight against AP water projects to protect those rights.
