Indian politics and particularly South Indian politics are heavily dominated by male descendants. It is the male descendants who carry the political legacy of reputed politicians.
The likes of YS Jagan, Nara Lokesh, KTR, Stalin and brothers are examples of the same. But for a change, we are witnessing a shift in the dynamic as female descendants are turning all the more active.
In Andhra Pradesh we have Sharmila, who is a very vocal leader and is currently the President of the Congress party in the state. Now in Telangana, we have Kavita, who is leaving the BRS umbrella and fighting her own political war with her new party, TRS.
But when it comes to the actual deliverables, this is where Sharmila had lacked in Andhra Pradesh. She was very vocal with her fight against YS Jagan, not regarding his administrative failures, but also the highly controversial Viveka Babai murder case.
Sharmila was successful in playing her path in dethroning Jagan, but her actual political purpose of reinstating Congress was a big failure. The party did not win a single seat in the election and Sharmila herself and ended up losing the Kadapa MP seat.
Kavitha will be hoping for an exact opposite result in Telangana now as she is fighting her own political battle with TRS. She succeeded in getting the party name of her choice and will start the more intense battle now.
But the real aim for Kavita will be to have a significant role in Telangana politics and register adequate political gains from the same. The aim must be to have a representation in the assembly or possibly even the parliament rather than sticking only to verbal assaults on BRS and CM Revanth.
For Sharmila, her primary aim was anyway to dethrone Jagan and she succeeded in the process. But in the case of Kavita, she appears to be focused on uprising her TRS through public outreach and policy making. Only time will tell if she would be successful in this pursuit.
