KCR’s Scheme Far from the Target

Free 2BHK Houses for the Poor is one of the flagship schemes of the Telangana government. The state government had set a stiff target of 2.33 lakh houses constructed in the 2017-18 fiscal at the rate of 1400 units in each of the 95 Assembly constituencies (excluding Greater Hyderabad) and one lakh units in the GHMC limits.

KTR and other ministers laid foundation stones for several such projects in GHMC limits before the GHMC elections and even took applications from the beneficiaries. But the scheme is a non-starter and the government is unlikely to reach even 25% of the target.

Contractors are of the opinion that the construction cost of 1250 per square feet in Greater Hyderabad and 900 per square feet in rural areas is not at all feasible and so there are no takers for the scheme all over the state.
