KCR’s Muslim Quota Will Be Tricky for Muslims?

Telangana government is moving its pawns to give 12% reservations to the Muslim Community which is one of the biggest poll promises of TRS before the elections. 12% reservations will mean that it would increase the reservations beyond 50% which will not be allowed by the Indian Constitution.

The bill after passed by Telangana Assembly has to be referred to the Central government to bring it under the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution by using powers under 31 (B) of the Constitution to protect the laws made by State Legislatures like in the case of Tamil Nadu.

But then that will put the ball in the Center’s court. Muslim Community heads are worried that in the process of pushing for the 12% Reservations to the community, the existing 4% reservations will be lost. It has to be seen how the issue pans out!
