KCR Watered The Joy Of Jagan Mohan Reddy

Central Government had finally settled the dispute of long-pending Power dues between the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Governments.

For the power supplied to Telangana by APGENCO between 2014 and 2017, the center asked Telangana Government to pay 3,441 Crore of Principal amount and 3,315 Crore of Late Payment Surcharge in 30 days.

Telangana Government is delaying the payments citing that the bifurcation of assets and liabilities of Power utilities was not completed. They argue that AP will owe them if all those calculations are done.

Central Government had confirmed that both are too different things and these dues have to be cleared irrespective of Bifurcation issues.

Chief Minister KCR held a review meeting about these instructions of the Central Government.

The argument of Telangana is different. The state government is furious over Central Government issuing orders to pay 6,756 crores. Before bifurcation, Kurnool and Anantapur districts were under Telangana Central Power System.

Telangana says that power companies have taken loans of 12,941 crores for the development of power supply in these two districts. They say that these are more than what they are supposed to pay Andhra Pradesh.

Until this dispute is resolved, the dues will not be paid, Telangana Government is saying.

The then Chandrababu Naidu Government did a relentless fight to get these dues. The Government back then moved a bankruptcy petition over Telangana Discoms to National Company Law Tribunal. But nothing worked.

Jagan Government is delighted with the recent instructions of the Center as this amount will come in handy for splurging on welfare schemes especially when the finances are totally dry.

But Telangana Government’s adamant stance means a big disappointment.
