KCR’s first step in erasing Andhra memories

Telangana government has decided to change the name of KBR Park as Asaf Jahi Park. However this move of the government did not go well with the locals of the city. Many are of the opinion that the move is politically motivated and it will lose its unique identity. KBR Park is called the green lung of the pollution inflected city and several walkers and nature lovers are emotionally attached to it.

The entire green space was once the hunting ground for the Nizam with a hunter’s cottage. It was transformed into a palace ground after the Nizam VII built a bungalow with all amenities sometime in the 60s. Following a litigation, Nizam family had donated it to the then Chandra Babu Naidu government in 1998 following which it was declared a national park.

The park was named after former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh Kasu Brahmananda Reddy for his contribution to Hyderabad. Many are of the opinion that the government is showing the prejudice against people belonging to different regions speaking the same language. However, it is an open secret that the KCR government wants to erase the memories of Andhra rulers in the state and decided up on the name change.
