KCR’s Swachh Hyderabad dream shattered in 1day!

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s dream of Swachh Hyderabad was shattered in a day after the strike called by municipal workers turned the city in to a massive dump yards. Nearly 26000 sanitation workers of GHMC stayed away from work demanding higher wages.

Heaps of garbage were left on roads as it is and intolerable stench permeated the air in the city. The talks between the government and the sanitation workers did not see any progress and the strike now enters second day.

Hyderabad generates close to 6000 metric tonnes of garbage every day as the strike goes on the garbage piles increase endangering people’s lives as well as turns to be the death knell for the Swachh Hyderabad campaign. Along with the garbage cleaning staff, antimalarial operations and dog squads also did not function. Several complaints of sewage overflows and choked drains were also left unattended.
