The drugs issue in Telangana politics has taken a new turn after KTR responded strongly to the allegations raised by Congress leaders.
Instead of dismissing the accusations, KTR said he is ready to undergo a drug test and suggested that all public representatives from every political party should also face the same test. By doing so, he attempted to shift the debate from personal allegations to a broader political challenge.
Reacting to remarks made by Mahesh Kumar Goud, KTR said drugs “create monsters out of human beings” and made it clear that he personally opposes the use of illegal substances. He also stated that the Bharat Rashtra Samithi strongly condemns drug consumption and illegal activities.
KTR added that anyone involved in drug use or peddling should face strict punishment regardless of their political affiliation.
At the same time, he accused his political opponents of trying to drag the BRS into the drugs controversy for political reasons. According to him, linking his name to any drug related issue without evidence is irresponsible and amounts to “disgusting politics.”
He also warned that making such allegations without proof could invite legal action.
Politically, KTR’s response appears to be a calculated move. By accepting the idea of a drug test, he attempts to neutralize the allegation and turn the pressure back on his critics.
The challenge now places the opposition in a difficult position. If they continue to raise the issue, they may also have to agree to the broader demand of drug tests for leaders across parties. If they step back, the controversy may lose its political momentum.
In Telangana’s increasingly sharp political climate, KTR’s reaction looks less like a defensive reply and more like a strategic counterattack aimed at shifting the narrative.
