KTR’s flagship project fails to benefit

Telangana IT Minister KTR’s flagship project, the Free WiFi at Tank Bund was rolled over couple of months ago. Even though it is called Free WiFi, there is an inherent policy to make sure BSNL, the service provider to make money.

Only the first 30 minutes of browsing in a day is free and to continue one has to buy a pack which will generate revenue to BSNL. Official sources say about 500 persons use the service every day but do not go beyond the free usage denying any revenue to BSNL.

On the other side, plans are on to roll out new wifi spots to come up at Taramati Baradari, Hitex apart from Tank Bund. However the users say that the free WiFi service is a total crap as the 30 minutes free time will always go waste trying to load the pages again and again due to connectivity issues. Many who used the service say they can hardly think of extending it beyond the 30 minutes due to the network quality.
