KTR’s Solution to Hyderabad Road Woes!

Telangana Municipal Minister, K Taraka Ramarao had decided to privatize the maintenance of all roads in Hyderabad City. This is to ensure that the roads in the city will no longer be nightmare to citizens. The government also decided to allot a Geo Tag and a unique number to every road.

GHMC, however, will still own the roads in the city. Hyderabad has 9,099 km of roads of which 4,173 km are bitumen (BT) roads. The corporation is spending a whopping 400 Crore every year for the roads maintenance but still the pot holes always remain as blemish on the prestige of the city.

KTR is of the opinion that once privatized, the company will be held responsible for damages and restoration. Road cutting and repairs will be handed over to a single agency. GHMC will very soon invite bids for selecting the companies for road maintenance. Initially, two years contracts will be awarded and will be later extended to 10 years based on their performance.
