Land Crunch for 2BHK Scheme

The government had hurriedly laid foundation stone for several 2 BHK schemes in the city before the GHMC elections so as to earn political mileage but the scheme is a non-starter at many places as the officials say there is no government land available for the construction. According to the guidelines, the applications are to be taken only after the identification of lands.

GHMC and Secunderabad Cantonment has few land parcels in the city but for some reason they are not keen on giving the lands to the government. The state government has lands in some area but they are in bits and pieces which might not be suitable for the housing scheme.

The state government is also planning to purchase lands from private land owners but such move may prove to be very costly due to the high land prices in the city. Free 2BHK scheme to the poor is one of the most influential scheme on the poor and middle class segment in the recently concluded GHMC elections.
