Left & Right of Krishna divided between the two!

Krishna River Banks are getting shortened as it approached the Vijayawada city due to rampant encroachment. The left bank of the rivr is encroached by the poor who have come to the city in search of employment and the right bank is occupied by land sharks for the construction of buildings close to the seclusion of nature.

The Irrigation Department or the Municipal Corporation periodically throw notices to the families living on the left bank to evict the area. But, those on the opposite bank got the exemption due to their money power. No “permanent” structure is allowed either on the flood (river) banks or the river bed, says the River Conservancy Act, 1884.

Many politicians including BJP MP Gokaraju Rangaraju have huge buldings and guest houses here. The state government had directed Municipal authorities to push notices to all. We will have to see if they really get to act withstanding all the political pressures. Krishna River is the source of fresh water for Vijayawada, Guntur, Eluru, Gudivada and thousands of villages draw water from the Krishna canals to fill their tanks.
