The sinking of piers at Medigadda barrage has been a hot topic in Telangana’s political sphere during the assembly elections.
After coming into power, the Congress government alleged that corruption by the former BRS government in constructing the Kaleshwaram project led to the low-quality construction of barrages and reservoirs.
A committee formed by the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) has been investigating the barrage, its issues, and possible solutions for the past couple of months.
According to the latest reports, the government is focusing on repairing the Medigadda Barrage. Actions are being taken based on interim recommendations from the NDSA Committee.
It was decided to open all gates in the 7th block, without any flood barriers. The gates between the 14th and 15th pillars of the 7th block have already been opened. Efforts are underway to open the remaining gates, except for those between the 19th, 20th, and 21st pillars.
The project’s construction company, L&T, has started repairs on the barrage. L&T will also remove the sandbanks and stones in front of the 7th block. Full-length repairs will be carried out once all the gates are fully lifted.
