Memberships overkill in Telangana!

Even though the elections are not around the corner, political parties in Telangana are ambitiously taking up the membership drives in the new state. The Ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti wants to stamp its authority on the newest state of the country by inducting 37.70 Lakh New Members.

Congress and BJP while still battling the electoral losses, set themselves an unrealistic target of 35 Lakh members each. While Congress, the main opposition party set the target itself, BJP’s target is imposed up on it by its National President Amit Shah. Telugu Desam Party which was beaten out of shape in the region post the bifurcation however seems to be on ground and set a modest (when compared to others) 10 Lakh target.

However if we assume all the parties succeed in their targets – All the parties together will enroll a whopping 1.17 Crore people – almost one-third of TS population. According to the Intensive household Survey of Telangana, the state’s population is about 3.63 crore. Men constitute 1.81 crore while women number 1.80 crore which comes to about 3.61 crore.
