Mobile Tariffs Likely to Increase by Year End

Sending New Year wishes in 2025 may cost more as mobile tariffs are expected to rise by 10–12% by year-end. Telecom operators are preparing to pass on higher costs to medium and high-paying users on data-heavy plans.

The hike comes as operators balance rising subscriber numbers, expanding 5G networks, and growing operational expenses. In Q2 2025 alone, 7.4 million new subscribers joined, prompting companies to consider higher tariffs to strengthen their financial position.

To boost revenue, providers plan tiered pricing, focusing on data speed and usage. While budget customers will see minimal impact, mid and premium users face the brunt of higher average revenue per user (ARPU) targets.

Companies may also bundle OTT subscriptions with mobile plans to justify increased costs. Instead of one large hike, operators are likely to introduce smaller, frequent adjustments. This means different users will experience varied effects based on their usage patterns.
