Modi’s govt not interested in keeping the word!

Here is a very disappointing news to the political parties in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act promised to increase the Assembly seats from 175 to 225 in AP and 119 to 153 in Telangana. Central government confirmed that the increase will not happen till 2026 as Article 170 says that the Assembly seats across all the states in the country will not be touched until 2026.

Union Minister confirmed this in parliament to a question asked by TRS MP Vinod. Reorganization Act mentioned that the delimitation will go in accordance to Article 170. Vinod mentioned that the increase can be done by passing an amendment to Reorganization Act and leaving out the Article 170. It is certainly a doable job by the Central government but Modi’s government is not interested in doing that.

Increasing the seats will help political parties to accommodate more number of aspirants. Particularly the ruling parties will have huge demand for tickets in the next elections. With this clarity from the Center, Telangana will go to 2019 and 2024 elections with 119 seats and Andhra Pradesh with 175 seats.
