Naidu’s foresight averted huge roadblock

An interesting fact about Polavaram project is revealed very late. It is known that Narendra Modi’s government had brought an ordinance to add seven submerging mandals of Telangana under Polavaram project to Andhra Pradesh even before Chandrababu Naidu taking oath.

It is said that Naidu had pressurized on Narendra Modi and Arun Jaitley to bring this ordinance. He even clarified that he will take oath as the Chief Minister only after the ordinance is brought. Subsequently the ordinance was brought in the first cabinet meeting of Narendra Modi’s government.

It is known that these 7 mandals (excluding Khammam Town) get submerged when Polavaram Project is constructed. Since it will be difficult to carry out rehabilitation works in these villages if they are in Telangana. So, these mandals are transferred to Andhra Pradesh for administrative convenience. If not for Naidu’s stubbornness, the project would have faced lot of problems from Telangana government.
